Join AYP for ABICHAT! A luncheon series that occurs once a quarter for Abilene Young Professionals. Hear from community leaders in an intimate setting as they share their stories of how they made their mark and how others can do the same. Tickets available to 60 young professionals and are first come, first served and are nonrefundable.
Our first series of 2023 sponsored by Community Foundation of Abilene features Abilene County Judge, Phil Crowley, and City Manager, Robert Hanna.
Phil Crowley was born at Dyess Air Force Base and raised in Abilene, Texas. Phil is a graduate of the Abilene Independent School District and Hardin-Simmons University, where he also currently serves as an Adjunct Professor. Phil graduated from Texas Wesleyan School of Law (now Texas A&M School of Law) in 2013 and returned home to practice law. Phil was in private practice for a year and half prior to joining the Taylor County District Attorney’s Office in 2015, where he spent seven and half years as a prosecutor. Phil won the Republican Primary for Taylor County Judge in March, 2022 and was elected Taylor County Judge in November, 2022 and assumed Office January 1, 2023. Phil attends Beltway Parkway Church and is a board member for the Alliance for Women and Children, Regional American Red Cross, and is a member of Kiwanis Club.
Robert Hanna was appointed City Manager for the City of Abilene, Texas in April 2015. Robert was born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas. He received both a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Arts and Sciences and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of North Texas. During his graduate program, Hanna served as a Hatton W. Sumner Scholar in cooperation with the Dallas based National Center for Policy Analysis. Robert is a graduate of the Senior Executive Institute conducted by the Weldon Cooper School of Public Service at the University of Virginia. Additionally, Robert is also a graduate of the ICMA Gettysburg Leadership Institute, and the ICMA Williamsburg Leadership Institute. Robert has served as the City Manager of Denison, Texas, the Assistant City Manager of Weatherford, Texas, the City Administrator of Hudson Oaks, Texas, and has held various positions with the City of Denton, Texas. Robert currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Presbyterian Medical Care Mission, and is an Elder and Clerk of Session for First Central Presbyterian Church. He most recently served on the Board of Directors of the United Way of Abilene, the GRACE Museum and the National Center for Children’s Illustrated Literature. Robert is a former member of the Board of Directors for the Texas City Management Association. In June of 2019, Robert received the Texas City Management Award in Memory of Gary Gwyn for mentoring and developing new talent through career development opportunities in local government. Robert is married to Brooke Bixby Hanna. They enjoy hiking, traveling, and spending time with friends and family members. Brooke is the proud mother of two, and Robert is blessed to have two adult step sons.
